The Big Half is a new event and will be held for the first time on Sunday 4 March 2018.
Created by London Marathon Events Ltd, in partnership with Sported, The Big Half is a new one day festival centred around the half marathon distance, which aims to be truly global and uniquely local in a celebration of the wonderful cultural diversity of the great city of London.
Up to 20,000 people will participate in events that include:
• The Big Half: a half marathon starting at Tower Bridge and finishing in Greenwich, passing through the boroughs of Southwark, Tower Hamlets, Lewisham and Greenwich
• The Little Half: a relay and other events over different distances of The Big Half course for participants of all ages and abilities
• The Big Relay will be exclusively open to community groups from the host boroughs of Southwark, Lewisham, Tower Hamlets and Greenwich. Participants will be able to run in teams of four, each person will run one leg of The Big Relay – over distances ranging from one mile to five miles.
• The Big Festival: a celebration of London’s diverse culture, food and music which will take place throughout the day in Greenwich
What makes The Big Half unique?
Our vision is to create a sports event for all Londoners and inspire entries from participants from all backgrounds so that the event mirrors the diverse demographics of London’s multi-cultural population. This has never been done before.
We are working with the many community groups in the four London boroughs on the course to create a genuine engagement in the event with local communities. Preferential entries will be offered to these community groups and London residents.
The Big Half will also feature a top international elite field, wheelchair racers and a mass field running on a certified course over the half marathon distance (which is therefore eligible for world records).
