Inspiring Grace

Light Touch support

Inspiring Grace is a charity focused on positive community action. It offers an array of services for the local community, among which is creating and delivering culturally accessible sporting opportunities.

THE CHALLENGE
Inspiring Grace runs several sports projects including archery, wrestling, horse-riding and swimming. One of the challenges with providing the latter was that they had to privately book the pool due to the cultural requirements of their main target group. This was becoming an increasingly costly exercise, as they also had to factor in the cost of hiring a swim coach. There was clearly interest in the activities, but the organisation was struggling to provide the service at a break-even cost.

WHAT LIGHT TOUCH SUPPORT DID YOU RECEIVE FROM A SPORTED VOLUNTEER?

"Initially we spoke to our Sported volunteer over the telephone as she wanted to find out more about the organisation and how swimming fitted into our strategy of delivering sports in the area. We then exchanged emails of the application where she was able to provide some really useful suggestions to make the application as strong as possible. She advised us to really utilise all the words required in each question, alongside providing additional suggestions and also pointing out where certain answers would fit in better in other areas.” Rashid Hussain

HOW DID LIGHT TOUCH HELP?
Sported’s Light Touch achieved its main goal of successfully securing the funding for a 12 month period for Inspiring Grace’s swimming project.

“The support of a volunteer can be invaluable for small organisations like ours. We would say that even though our main goal was assistance towards gaining the funding, there are lots of additional skills that come out of the relationship. We have a clearer idea with regards bid writing as a result of the expert guidance we received.”
