CASE STUDY

Vulcan ABC is a well-established boxing club that has been operating since 2013 from a building provided by Hull City Council under a concessionary lease. The club is engaged in an ongoing programme of modernisation and refurbishment to make the facilities more attractive to a wider user base.

The club attended the two day training programme where they were able to explore their growth ambitions for the club and the key challenges in achieving this. The interactive session also enabled the club to network with other clubs on the initiative, share ideas and provide a catalyst for developing best practice. Vulcan ABC deliver a wide range of education programmes on behalf of schools however it was identified that there could be much more effective use of their venue, which will enable them to maximise the usage of the venue and enable them to provide more services to the local community and improve the overall cosmetic appearance of
the facility.

Working with the support of a Sported mentor following training they were able to apply their strategy and identify the appropriate structure as the advice in this area in the past may not have considered this.

Seb Glazer from Vulcan ABC said:

"Our mentor was absolutely fantastic, he was very knowledgeable and really interested in our project. This was the first time we had worked on a business plan, and he led us through the process and assisted us to come up with a clear vision for the future. Consequently, we were successful in gaining funding and have been able to create an amazing new gym (which has seen numbers increase dramatically). We would recommend the BoxOn project to anyone and feel hugely grateful for all of the help and support we received during the process."
