Time in Mind Project: Mental Health Awareness Week 2021

By Sported |  10th May 2021

This week, 10-16 May, is Mental Health Awareness Week, and it is perhaps particularly poignant after the year we’ve all had and the extra stresses that have been introduced to our lives.

Sported would like to start the week by announcing our new Time in Mind project. In response to the feedback we’ve had from our groups that the number of people experiencing mental health issues has been increasing , and that group leaders feel ill-equipped to handle them, we have created a hub of support.

Funded by the generous donations to The Times Christmas Appeal, the project aims to better equip group leaders with the knowledge, skills and confidence to better support their young people, experiencing mental health issues.

Sported will be supporting its network with 12 x Youth Mental Health First Aid Awareness workshops, each for 20 individuals, delivered by StreetGames.

This will support 240 groups in locations across the UK. The first of these workshops has already been advertised with all spaces filled in record time, demonstrating the need for this support.

In addition, A FREE E-learning module, Basic Introduction to Mental Health, My Club and Mental Health, from TAMHI Northern Ireland, will also be offered to all 2,600 Sported members

Sported members can sign up to the Youth Mental Health First Aid Awareness Workshops on Your Sported Network and also download a list of mental health resources.

We also want to celebrate the important role community groups play in the mental wellbeing of local young people.

Here we take a look at the amazing work of TAMHI over the years and how Sported has supported them on their journey.
