Energise me and Bournemouth university research into the role the workforce can play in increasing LGBTQ+ access to physical activity and sport. The work looks at: 

  1. Workforce representation
  2. Skills, competencies and behaviours
  3. Potential to address real or perceived barriers to participation

Energise me have taken the findings from this research and turned them into a simple resource to help you develop the knowledge and confidence to promote a safe space for members of LGBT+ communities.

This resource grew from a research project funded by Sport England, working with Bournemouth University. It is designed to support you and your team (workforce) to become more inclusive. It highlights potential barriers to LGBT+ communities enjoying physical activity and offers recommendations to help you make positive changes.

How to use this resource

This resource comes in two parts. There’s an introductory guide, packed with tips and recommendations. There’s also a set of scenario slides for you to work through on your own or with your team or colleagues.

You can download both parts of the resource below. Start with one scenario at a time or work through all 10 in one go. It’s completely up to you!
