Funding your upgrades and projects
Sustainability and having an environmental focus can help land you funding for upgrades and projects as well as benefit the planet.
Finding funds for projects can be challenging, many funders now ask for sustainability to be a factor considered in all projects, particularly building works.
Some funders have dedicated funding pots for projects with an environmentally sustainable focus and many will give extra weight to applications with a sustainable agenda.
Specific environmental funds
UK Government Heat Network Efficiency Scheme
The UK Government’s Heat Network Efficiency Scheme supports performance improvements to existing district heating or communal heating projects.
Edge Fund
Edge believes that if we are to create a world free of injustice and inequality we need to completely change the way our societies are organised.
National Lottery Community Fund
The NLCF have a number of funding pots for small and medium sized projects. Part of their mission is to help communities be more environmentally sustainable and improve access to quality nature.
International Tree Foundation
ITF’s UK Programme helps communities embrace and champion their local trees and green spaces. Their work is all about bringing people together for trees through projects like planting new community woodlands, creating orchards, or showing how trees and time in nature can boost wellbeing and mental health.
The Energy Saving Trust Foundation
The Energy Saving Trust Foundation is the charitable arm of Energy Saving Trust, established in 2014.
They provide funding and support to community-based organisations, enabling them to support young people to take action on the climate issues that matter most to them.
Football Foundation
The Grass Pitch Maintenance Fund is a fund providing six-year tapered grants to help eligible organisations enhance or sustain the quality of their grass pitches.
The Key Fund
The Energy Resilience Fund is finance to enable community and social enterprises to retrofit energy generating/saving technology on community owned or managed buildings, with an initial focus on stabilising or reducing energy costs.
Although Inspiring Scotland has no current specific environmental programmes, groups have accessed funding here for environmental improvements.
