Becoming more inclusive

At Sported, one of our key objectives is to support our members in becoming more inclusive and enabling every young person to thrive. We understand that there are multiple barriers to young people taking part in sport and physical activity and want to provide a platform for members to access support, guidance, and expertise. Our in-house EDI team are currently working on these pages to bring you the most up to date and relevant information. We have outlined our commitment on our webpages and in the coming months will have a suite of resources around Race equity, LGBTQ+ inclusion, disability and many other topics.

You can find some useful checklists and templates from the Sports Councils’ Moving to Equality pages.

LGBT+

Emma Jones (She/Her) is our LGBTQ+ lead at Sported. For an informal chat or for more information around support for LGBTQ+ inclusion please email E.Jones@sported.org.uk

Sported is committed to equality of opportunity for everyone to access sport and physical activity.

Compared to other groups, data on the physical activity levels of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and queer/questioning (LGBTQ+) community – and the sport they play – is less well established.

The sport and physical activity sector is working with community groups to better understand what works for them.

Are you looking for advice or how to promote LGBTQ+  inclusion in your club?

Sported offers webinars, workshops and learning opportunities to and works to connect members to expert support and resources  from partner organisations.

Pride Sports and the Proud Trust have produced guidance for non-binary inclusion in sport and physical activity.

They’ve also created a club finder tool to help locate clubs that are LGBTQ+ friendly, or LGBTQ+ focused.

Supporting the LGBTQ+ community so that they feel included in sport is vital as the members of Soho FC in London explain
