NICKY HAROLD
Volunteer Consultant
Nicky has been a Sported Volunteer Consultant since 2018
Why did you become a Sported volunteer?
When I retired in my mid forties I wanted to ‘give something back’, keep the grey matter working and share some of my experience with causes that mattered to me. As an only child with asthma, I was relatively shy and lacked in confidence until I got involved in sport. I later went on to represent my county at hockey and still regularly swim, cycle, hill walk and scuba dive. Having access to sport as a child made a real difference to my life and so I wanted to use my skills to ensure sporting clubs helping children can thrive and do the same.
How have you supported Sported members?
I’ve helped a number of clubs explore ways that they can engage local businesses and sponsors in a way that financially benefits the clubs whilst giving the businesses something in return. Hopefully building new relations in the communities that will last.
What do you enjoy about volunteering with Sported and supporting community sports groups?
I like the fact that I can get involved on an ad-hoc basis (which allows me to get on with my life/holidays/hobbies) but at the same time make a difference.
