Creating Sustainable Clubs with

Active Partnerships

A cohort of 5 Active Partnerships identified 27 grassroots sports clubs who had already received funding but needed additional support to build and grow their provision in an efficient and sustainable way.

Sported provided this support, with two different programmes:

Programme 1

Start-Up Groups

6 groups were identified and supported over a period of  7 months.  The subjects covered by the  groups were:

  • Research their community and the young people
  • Identify the impact they wish to have in the community
  • Basic plan of what their idea is
  • Development of their rules, structure, financial practice, policies and procedures, marketing and how they will engage the community

Programme 2

Established Groups

  • 21 groups were identified and supported over a period of 5 months. The subjects covered by groups were:
  • Staff and volunteers
  • Facilities for delivery
  • Planning
  • Financial Management and budgets
  • Partnership and collaboration
  • Fundraising

Programme impact

27 organisation across the West Midlands took part in the project

of group leaders agreed that the project had improved the long term sustainability of their group

100%

said the project had increased their understanding of the areas they needed to develop to make their club stronger

75%

felt more confident in the survival of their group as a result of the project

have taken steps to improve the capacity of their organisaiton as a result of the project
