Charity cricket match raises over £800 for Sported

We always love hearing from individuals and groups who are fundraising for Sported to help us continue our work helping community sports groups survive to help young people thrive.

Earlier in July, Kent-based Aryan Shah held a charity cricket match raising a brilliant £839 for Sported; thrashing his original fundraising target of £350.

Players paid a voluntary donation to take part and Aryan and his parents oversaw the smooth running of the event with Aryan covering the venue and refreshment amount. Alongside a great cricket match, thanks to Aryan’s publicity of the event, a large number of spectators came along to cheer the teams on.

Aryan chose to raise money for Sported as he believes in the power of sport for young people, having played sport when he was younger:

“I always wanted to raise money for a charity. It was a no-brainer to raise money for a sport charity like Sported because of my tremendous amount of passion for sport. I wanted to raise money for a cause I truly believed in.”

“Sport is truly powerful as it inspires young people. Sport equips the young with invaluable skills such as teamwork, leadership, discipline, hard work to name few. Sport gives you transferable skills and also keeps you fit and healthy and I have been extremely lucky to have the ability to play a variety of sports and have experienced its many benefits first-hand.

Sport has by far been the single most important thing that has determined the person I am today. It has taught me so much and I still have so much to learn from it as a medium. The learning process with sport never stops.”

The Sported motto clicked with me instantly and that was that every young person should have equal opportunities to take part in sport and the chance to reach their full potential irrespective of individual backgrounds. Sport brings different backgrounds together and celebrates diversity.

It gives me great happiness that more young people will get an opportunity in sport and that I have made a difference.”

Thank you Aryan for running such a brilliant community event and raising money for Sported! Find out more about Aryan and the match on his Justgiving page.
