Mental Health Awareness Week

By Sported |  9th May 2022

As this week marks Mental Health Awareness Week, Sported is excited to announce that we have partnered with TAMHI, a mental health charity based in Northern Ireland, and will be launching the Mental Wealth Games to 50 community groups this week.

This will give our members access to session plans, recorded videos, marketing material and a handbook resource supporting them in delivering mental health sessions to their young people.

TAMHI works with sports clubs and groups who use sport to raise awareness of mental health and resilience. The charity works with sports clubs, schools, and youth groups to make mental health fun and engaging. They are based in North Belfast but support any group they can with resources. Their approach is focused on raising the capacity of grassroots groups to have the confidence to connect with their members in relation to mental health. They do this through, workshops, talks, training, and unique activities and games. Their approach has proven to connect better with people who like sports and like to learn through activity.

We know from our internal insight that there is a need for further mental health support for our members. Mental health is the biggest challenge (identified as such by 27% of group leaders), and in October 2021 56% of our members selected Health and Wellbeing as a priority area in our Pulse survey.

“Mental health is something that is more prominent than ever, with 83% of young people saying the pandemic has made their mental health worse, and our internal insights telling us that mental health is the biggest challenge identified by our group leaders.

To try and address this, and also build on the time in mind project, we are excited to announce our partnership with TAMHI, utilising the mental wealth games to better equip our groups, and in turn improve the wellbeing of the young people.  The groups will be given access to session plans, recorded videos, marketing material and a handbook resource supporting them in delivering mental health sessions to their young people.”
