Our work in Northern Ireland

Young people lying on the floor making plans

Sported transforms the lives of people and strengthens our communities in Northern Ireland by supporting and resourcing local sport and physical activity groups.

The 350+ clubs and organisations we work with across NI are deeply rooted within their local areas and are led by highly-committed, passionate local people who run initiatives that help strengthen their community. However, these grassroots groups are often under-funded and under-resourced.

Sported fills this gap by providing professional expertise, resources and operational support, free of charge, to help these groups grow stronger. That means supporting people in leadership roles to build inclusive and representative teams, but also helping groups secure funding, plan for the future, and make a lasting impact in their communities.

Sported is here to create opportunities and support clubs and organisations to make a transformational impact — through inclusive programmes, strategic partnerships, and a commitment to equity in sport and physical activity. We have a particular focus on supporting NI groups using the power of sport to build community cohesion and tackle inequality in areas experiencing socio-economic deprivation.
