Our story
With the spirit and excitement of a home Olympic and Paralympic Games and the success it brought to our athletes, 2012 will always be remembered as one of the most incredible years in UK sporting history. But hosting the Games was about much more than medals and glamour, it promised to deliver a legacy to inspire a generation through sport.
Sported was founded in 2008 by Sir Keith Mills, International President and CEO of London 2012, as his personal commitment to deliver on this pledge.
His ambition was to not only inspire a generation to play sport, but to harness its ability to help young people overcome personal challenges and fulfil their potential in life.
17 years later, Sported is doing just that. As the largest grassroots sport charity in the UK, we’re making sure that no-one is left on the sidelines.
We don’t deliver sport ourselves – instead we support the network of thousands of grassroots clubs who are already doing this. Through funding, programmes and resources, we enable them to transform lives and strengthen communities through sport.
Our focus is on those who need help most – clubs in deprived places, serving minority groups and marginalised communities, and those widening the net.
We’re backing the unsung heroes delivering sport – but also making a massive difference to our society. Bringing those who have been off the radar and putting them on the map.
