Sported response to new government strategy for the future of sport and physical activity

By Sported |  30 August 2023

Sported welcomes the UK government’s new strategy for the future of sport and physical activity and its key pillars of participation, integrity and sustainability.

Our own research, along with other charities seeking to transform the lives of young people, has illustrated that it is necessary to tackle the growing gap in equality of opportunity in tandem with improving the rates of participation in our society.

The strategy is right to identify an emphasis on ‘ensuring that sport – whether at grassroots or elite level – is “inclusive and welcoming for all.”

And we are pleased that the government acknowledges the need to make the sector more financially resilient, a key focus for Sported since its inception.

Community groups, such as Sported’s 3000-strong membership, can play a unique role in leveraging the full benefits of sport and physical activity.

And we echo our colleagues in the National Sector Partners Group in believing that improving the health and wellbeing of this nation must be a central priority for this and future governments.

The full report can be found here – along with how to respond to its consultation.
