Sported’s titan ten prepare for London Marathon

By Sported |  24 April 2025

Ten runners will line up for the TCS London Marathon on Sunday morning as part of a Sported team raising valuable funds for grassroots sport.

The contingent includes representatives from the charity’s board of trustees, staff and partners, as well as those ready to push themselves through 41 kilometres on the streets of the city to support the cause.

The crew, sporting Sported’s unique logo, range from first-timers to old hands over the distance in what is expected to be the largest entry field since the storied event began in 1981.

“They’re an amazing bunch,” said Sported CEO Sarah Kaye. “We’re incredibly appreciative of their hard training to get the start line and we’ll be cheering them all the way to Pall Mall and the finish. And every penny raised in sponsorship is going to allow us to do more to transform lives through sport across the country.”

Courtenay Escorcio, Sported Associate Trustee, added: “I’ve been on the Board of Sported since last year and have been incredibly impressed by their commitment to wanting every young person to have the same opportunity to fulfil their potential, and using sport as a mechanism for this. Their work is incredibly important in helping community groups to survive, which is especially important given current funding pressures.”

Sarah Orton, from partners Barclays, said: “It’s no secret that I love everything about sport. It’s played a huge, huge role at so many stages of my life and taught me so many important lessons. It’s given me joy, purpose, and friendship, and pulled me out of some tough times. I genuinely don’t believe I would be the same person without it.

“I’ve also had the privilege of working with Sported for a few years, and have seen first-hand the incredible impact they have on keeping grassroots sports clubs surviving and thriving across the country – oftentimes clubs who are working with some of the hardest to reach young people. Sport truly can transform lives!”

Hamish Rabone said: “Anyone who knows me knows my life wouldn’t be the same without sport. The relationships I have forged, the lessons I’ve learnt, and the health benefits I’ve received through sport are priceless. However, the fact I’ve had access to sporting facilities, coaches, teammates, and equipment from an early age, is a privilege – and one Sported (and I) believe all young people should receive – irrespective of their background.”
