Go! London is looking to:
- Build a fairer London
- Strengthen and diversity the capital’s sport and physical activity sector
- Reduce barriers to physical activity that children and young people face, to tackle social and economic headquarters
Sported in partnership with London Youth, have been commissioned to provide capacity building support to applicants and grantees to the different streams of the funding programme.
We are looking volunteers to fulfil a wide range of roles within our support offer to these local community sport organisations including; delivery of webinars, supporting with the completion of our Game Plan survey tool, creation of action plans and in some specific instances providing 1:1 support and guidance to groups.
If you are interested in helping a wide range of fantastic grassroots community organisations who are delivering in the capital, then please email volunteer@sported.org.uk to express your interest.
Short term placements generally focus on one specific topic area. Support generally consists of: problem solving, signposting and reviewing policies/processes, etc.
This is delivered one-to-one, in person, over phone, email or video call as suits both parties, and can range from a one-off call to 10 hours of support over several sessions (maximum of 3 months) to achieve agreed upon objectives/outcomes for the member. You are encouraged to estimate the amount of time required and also fits your capacity.
You will have the opportunity to discuss with the relevant Field Team member before getting started, as well as regular check ins throughout the placement.
Long term placements generally focus on one specific topic area that would require ongoing developmental support or/and encompass multiple topics. Support generally consists of: working through a business plan, changing legal structure, and other complex requirements.
This may be delivered one-to-one basis, or with members of committee, in person, over the phone, email or video call as suits both parties, and will generally last between 3 and 6 months with a few hours support each month. Support may continue even longer as long the objectives are still in line with the original brief and volunteers have the availability and desire to do so.
You will have the opportunity to discuss with the relevant Field Team member before getting started, as well as regular check ins throughout the placement.
Leadership Coaching is aimed at group leaders who are managing a team of staff/volunteers at their organisation/club. The purpose is to help those individuals to realise their potential of becoming a more effective leader.
Our Sported Leadership Coaching are volunteers who are experienced coaches and have supported leaders across various sectors.
We have a Sported Leadership Coaching induction and if you want to get involved then please email volunteer@sported.org.uk
Sported’s Start-Ups support was developed with new groups in mind. Whether they are in the process of translating their mission into action or are in the very early stages of development, we wanted simple tools that would help them identify what they need in place and where they can get support.
We have developed two core checklists:
- Developing a strong sport for development idea
- Essential elements needed in place before delivery
The aim is to work with the member to identify where they are at in their start up journey, identify what they need to have in place and put together an action plan for essential areas to develop based on our corresponding information sheets full of Sported services and signposts.
How does the support work? Members can take two different journeys based on their style of learning – group surgeries or 1:1. You can choose which one you prefer as well.
Interested? Take a look at the Start-ups overview and message the Volunteer Services team if you are interested.
Our Sported team are continuous developing new workshops and resources to support our members and we need support from volunteers to provide their expertise of knowledge and skills. By sharing your experience with members you can build a better and more sustainable sport for development sector.
Deliver a webinar
We run workshops/webinars for our members throughout the year on a range of topics, aimed at making them stronger as a group and more prepared for the future. We try to make sure they are as relevant and timely as possible.
There are a couple of ways for you to get involved as a volunteer:
- If you feel there is a particular area of your professional experience that you would like to share with our group leaders and you think would be valuable for them, please get in touch.
- If you are strong digital facilitator, we would be very grateful for your help in delivering workshops that are already designed. Please get in touch.
Develop a resource
The Sported Hub is filled with resources. These include how-to guides, video tutorials, templates, directories and more.
If you think there is a gap and would be interested in working with our team to develop a network resource in your area of expertise, please get in touch.
