Sported supports sport and physical activity community projects thanks to funding raised by players of People’s Postcode Lottery. The programme is delivering grants and support to groups in England, Scotland and Wales.
The funding is being distributed by Sported to community organisations delivering sport and physical activity for wider social purpose.
Grants of £1,000 will support a wide range of projects and initiatives that address local need, promote social inclusion, and strengthen communities in underserved areas.
A small number of large grants of up to £25,000 are also available.

Who are People’s Postcode Lottery?
People’s Postcode Lottery is a subscription lottery which raises money for charities. To date, players of People’s Postcode Lottery have raised more than £1.5 billion for thousands of charities and local good causes.
Funding raised by players of People’s Postcode Lottery was awarded to Sported through People’s Postcode Trust, Postcode Community Trust, Postcode Local Trust, Postcode Neighbourhood Trust, Postcode Places Trust and Postcode Society Trust.
Sported manages and administers the programme to distribute funds to community groups.

Who can apply?
Groups must be based in England, Scotland or Wales and serving people living in England, Scotland or Wales to be eligible for funding.
We welcome applications from not-for-profit organisations, including charities, community groups and traditional sports clubs.
We provide funding to organisations with a turnover of less than £1 million and we will prioritise organisations with an income of £250,000 or below. Typically, we will fund no more than 1/3 of your organisation’s overall income.
Applicants must demonstrate that they are using sport for social purposes, focused on projects and initiatives that address local need, promote social inclusion, and strengthen communities in underserved areas.
Applicants must demonstrate support to one or more of the following underrepresented groups; people living in areas of high deprivation, women and girls, people from racially diverse communities, people living with disabilities, and individuals from the LGBTQ+ community.
We will prioritise applications from organisations that operate in and support people from areas of high deprivation (Indices of Multiple Deprivation 1-3).

You can apply for £1,000 to support your organisation’s delivery. A small number of large grants of up to £25,000 are also available. You can only apply for one grant per organisation.
The fund is open from Wednesday 1 October until midnight on Wednesday 15 October 2024.

Funding is unrestricted and can be used for anything that will support your organisation to sustain and/or grow your activities in your local community. Typical examples of costs might include a contribution towards:
Bank details – We will need to see a bank statement or screenshot from online banking. This should be dated within the last 3 months and show account name, sort code and account number so we can make payment. We do not need to see any transactions or balance. The account name should match the name of the organisation applying.
Governing document – e.g. Club Constitution or Articles of Association, or link to details on Companies House / Charities Commission. This is to ensure you are a not-for-profit organisation.
We will also need to ensure you to have necessary policies in place to deliver activities safely. Depending on the size and type of grant, you may be required to submit the following additional information:
Sported can offer support to organisations if you do not have these requirements in place.
The funding should be spent within a twelve month period, to allow us to assess and report on the impact of the programme.
You will be required to complete a short feedback form to help us understand how the funding has supported your organisation. You may also be selected for a grant audit so please keep copies of invoices paid and receipts for any items connected to the grant. We will also ask for quotes and images and may request to visit some groups to develop case studies. This will be optional.
Organisations who have already received funding from Sported and/or the People’s Postcode Lottery Trusts will not be eligible to apply for funding until any monitoring paperwork has been returned. For organisations who have received prior funding from People’s Postcode Lottery, 12 months must have passed from your last payment date.
The programme closes at midnight on 15 October 2025. All applicants will be contacted by Sported by the end of November. Successful applicants will receive their funding by January 2026.
We will accommodate different accessibility needs to give organisations the best chance of communicating their idea and plans with us. This could be arranging a conversation with a member of our team to provide clarity on the questions and processes, or providing information and the application form in accessible formats. We will consider any requests for accessibility that will reduce barriers to applying.
